TikTok Shop & Creator Monetization in the DACH Region: Where Do We Stand?

TikTok Shop & Creator Monetization in the DACH Region: Where Do We Stand?

TikTok Shop & Monetization: The State of Play in the DACH Region and What It Means for Your Online Store

Over the past few years the social commerce platform TikTok has developed its business model far beyond short-form video, with features such as TikTok Shop (in-app shopping) and the Creator Rewards monetization program. But what does the picture actually look like in the German-speaking region – in Germany, Austria and Switzerland? And why should online store operators be paying attention now?

Availability in Germany, Austria & Switzerland

Germany

In Germany, TikTok Shop is planned for an official European launch and is partly live already: according to a Reuters report, TikTok Shop rolls out in Germany, France and Italy with effect from March 31, 2025.

The monetization program for creators – the Creator Rewards Program – also lists Germany as one of the few countries where it is supported.

Austria

In Austria, by contrast, there is so far no official activation of TikTok Shop or the Creator Rewards program. Several industry reports point out explicitly that Austria is not yet included (as of 2025).

Switzerland (and the Rest of the DACH Region)

For Switzerland there is currently no reliable official information about the imminent availability of shop or creator payment features. Here too, then, caution is warranted when weighing up the opportunities and the risks.

How Long Have These Features Existed?

TikTok Shop

According to Wikipedia, TikTok Shop launched officially in the United States in September 2023. In Europe the UK went first, and the rollout date for Germany was set by Reuters for the end of March 2025.

Creator Rewards / Monetization

The program went live in several countries, Germany among them. According to Napolify, roughly seven countries are currently in the program, including Germany, the United Kingdom, France and the United States. The official help pages name Germany as available.

Why Is Austria Not Included Yet?

The reasons have not been confirmed officially, but they can be inferred plausibly:

  • Regulatory requirements: for monetization and in-app shopping, platforms have to satisfy tax, payment, consumer protection and data protection rules. In the EU the requirements of the Digital Services Act (DSA) are particularly relevant here.
  • Market prioritization: larger markets such as Germany, France and Italy are evidently served first. Austria tends to be treated as a „follower“ market.
  • Payment and payout infrastructure: creator programs require reliable payment methods (PayPal, for example) along with tax and registration processes. Napolify names this explicitly as a reason why many countries – including some in Europe – are still excluded.
  • Logistics & e-commerce operations: shop features also require returns, shipping and customer service processes. Countries with lower volume may follow later.

Why Does This Matter for Your Online Store?

If you run an online store in the DACH region (on Shopify or another system), keep the following points in view:

  • New sales channels are opening up: TikTok Shop makes buying possible directly in the app — the checkout flow is shorter, more impulsive and mobile focused. That can improve your conversion rates.
  • First-mover advantage: in markets where TikTok Shop is already available (Germany, for instance) you can build a competitive lead – through targeted TikTok ads, product integration and livestream sales.
  • Preparation pays off: even though Austria and Switzerland are not enabled yet, you can prepare today: install the TikTok pixel, create content in TikTok Shop formats, plan influencer collaborations. When it launches, you are ready immediately.
  • Brand building + reach: TikTok is not only a shop platform but a social commerce engine: viral videos generate traffic, SEO effects and brand awareness – even while checkout still happens elsewhere.
  • Risks & effort: in markets without an official shop feature you have to work around it (selling cross-border via Germany, for example) – which adds tax and logistics work and increases complexity.

Recommended Next Steps

  1. Analyze your target markets: if you are active in Germany or want to be, look into TikTok Shop integration through Shopify and similar platforms.
  2. For Austria and Switzerland: focus on TikTok content, reach and brand building – even without in-app checkout.
  3. Optimize your content for TikTok: short videos, strong hooks, mobile first – so you are ready when the shop feature is enabled.
  4. Follow TikTok’s official announcements: launch dates change, and preparation pays.
  5. Plan fulfillment and payment routes in advance: logistics, returns and tax matters have to be in place the moment TikTok Shop becomes available.

Outlook: When Will Austria & Switzerland Follow?

There is no concrete date for Austria or Switzerland so far. Based on the rollout strategy to date, one might assume the next DACH countries could get their turn in 2026 – provided the regulatory and operational prerequisites are met. Industry analyses see Switzerland, the Netherlands, Belgium and Austria as the «next» markets.

One thing is important: as soon as TikTok announces an official launch date, moving quickly is what secures the lead.

Conclusion

The direction of travel is clear: social media platforms are increasingly becoming shopping platforms, and TikTok plays a key role in that. For online stores in the German-speaking region this means: early movers win. Even though Austria and Switzerland are not yet served with TikTok Shop or creator monetization, building reach and infrastructure is already worth doing today. That way you are ready – the moment the official launch happens.
